Barrel of Monks Brewing

How do you put a price on a good time? Well, the price for a good time at Barrel of Monks was a lot less than we expected it to be. We're always looking for a good time, good beer and at Barrel of Monks Brewing in Boca Raton Florida, on a Tuesday night, all beer is two for the price of one. Now don't get the idea we were lured in just by the prices, the beer was fantastic! It's a rare treat when we can enjoy 16 varieties of yummy small batch Belgium ales and not groan about the prices. Enough about the tab, let's talk about the beer and the brewery. The Monks, Bill, Keith, Matthew and Kevin, all close friends, started the brewery in 2015. Bill is the Brewmaster. Matthew is the PhD scientist who oversees quality, Keith and Kevin keep the business humming. They even take steps to pre-treat the Florida aquifer water to make sure the chemistry matches water from Belgium. Together their obsession for Belgium-style brewing has resulted in 5 STARS on Yelp, and Travelocity, and lots of very enjoyable beer.

Father Christmas, a 10% ABV Belgium Strong Spiced Dark Ale was the star of the night. This new holiday release is on tap and available in 24oz bottles. They will have a Christmas party on December 9th when they'll be serving Father Christmas 2017 along side an aged version from 2016. This beer gets better with age. All their beers are solid award winners. Parade of Souls, a 9% ABV Imperial Stout, is mighty popular. Mom enjoyed her two-for-one glasses of Witty in Pink, a 5.5% ABV Belgium Wit with Raspberries. We had a flight to make sure we didn't miss tasting any of the offerings. The Wizard, formerly White Wizard, a 5.5% Wit White Ale is one of their signature brews and Dad really enjoyed his two-for-one. These beers we so good we wanted to take home a keg for Thanksgiving. The night included singles, dubbels, triples and even a quadruple, the Quadrophonic, 10.5% ABV. Single in Havana is a yummy 4.5% ABV Belgium Single with guava. How do you make this great evening even better? Food Truck. We paired these great craft brews with food from Cheffrey Eats, some of the best burgers ever. We started with a bacon flight. Imagine four strips of candied Canadian bacon decorated with marshmellows, maple syrup, and other treats. We also enjoyed a Dirty Sanchez burger, a bowl of Holla Poppin Mac and an Old School burger with fries.

We brought three generations of the family to this outing and everyone had a great time. We even took Mom on the brewery tour. We had a guided tour through the backroom and had a chance to see the grain mill and conveyor system purchased from Dogfish Head Brewery, the 20 barrel brew house, the row of bubbling fermenters, the computerized control system and the new bottling line. The tour ends in the aging room where oak barrels are conditioning the yummy craft brews. Man, I really wish I owned my own brewery! By now you're starting to feel like you really missed out on something, right?! You're in luck. It was just another Tuesday night at Barrel of Monks, so mark your calendar, gather your friends and head on down to Boca for a great evening. Erik Scheffer, the Tasting Room Manager will take good care of you, and the staff were enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all the award winning brews. This craft brewery would be popular if it were in downtown Brussels, so we feel lucky to have Barrel of Monks right off I-95 in Boca Raton, FL.
Cheers!
