Due South Trench Day 2018

2018-01-20

Trench Day is named for Due South Brewing Company's Gold Medal winning Imperial Stout, Mariana Trench (10.0% ABV). They only brew it once a year and release it on Trench Day, a 3 hour craftbrewfest. For 3 hours, 300 lucky ticket holders are treated to over 30 craftbrews on tap.

The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the world's oceans. It's located in the western Pacific Ocean, east of the Philippines, just east of the Mariana Islands. It's a crescent-shaped scar in the Earth's crust, and measures about 2,550 km long and 69 km wide. It reaches a maximum-known depth of 10,994 meters (36,070 ft) at a small slot-shaped valley in its floor known as the Challenger Deep, If Mount Everest were dropped into the trench at this point, its peak would still be 1.6 kilometres underwater. In 2009, Marianas Trench was established as a United States National Monument. At the bottom of the trench the water column above exerts a pressure of 15,750 psi, more than 1,000 times the standard atmospheric pressure at sea level.

Mariana Trench, the Imperial stout, has a complex flavor full of Flaked Oats, Cocoa Nibs, and Madagascar Vanilla Beans. We enjoyed the remaining last few kegs from 2016,2017 and the new varieties on tap for 2018, including: Java, Cinnamon Roll Coffee, Bourbon Barrel Aged, Silky Trench, Bacon, Cookies and Cream, Mexican, and Irish Coffee. When you get a chance stop in and try the Mariana Mexican for a unique Imperial Stout with chocolate, cinnamon, and habanero peppers. Muy Bueno.

The rest of the event is a laid back time with numerous trips to the tap room enjoying tastes of 30 flavors. After a while we started mixing some of the flavors. Trench Day is a great time to celebrate a real special release and explore the depths of good craft beer.
